On a clear Saturday afternoon in ideal 22°C conditions, the Men in Black from SLC took on their nemesis, of over 60 years, Marist Brothers Ashgrove. Trekking out down Waterworks Road in the western suburbs of Brisbane, I remeniced back 40 years when my 1st XV side, under the legendary Noel Mather RIP, led against the Blue & Gold only to be crucified by the boot of a lanky lock named John Eales.

Members of that side gathered for lunch in the proceeding formalities of the day. Our front row was present, Matt Long, Darren Nolan and myself as the hooker. We had scattered after that time, from Hong Kong to Tokyo, and so it was great to press the flesh and tell old war stories. Outside we met others from that side, namely our fearless leader, Sean Stanley, and Brendan Fitzpatrick.
